We met during my university days in Owerri, Chioma was really not on the pretty side but she was full of life. Why I was so attracted to her besides her being full of life was because of her entrepreneurial skills.
We dated for about nine months after I accidentally met her at a friend's office three years after we graduated. She had come to his office to sell some weaves and all the ladies were excitedly chatting in a room when i stumbled on them, it was a surprise to see Chioma again after our school years, we got chatting and met for drinks on the same evening.
Nine months later, we were married in an elaborate wedding ceremony in Abuja.
A year and two months after, we celebrated again with the birth of Jessica, my pride.
We were a busy couple; both entrepreneurs, we hardly had time to spend evenings together, weekends were worst as Chioma had to be at her hair boutique every day of the week and attended lots of weddings always taking Jessica with her. This was understandable as I am an entrepreneur who when not at work, I stay home or go out to watch football with my friends as I am more of an introvert.
I never suspected that Chioma could be cheating on me, I hear that who your wife’s friends are, can have either a positive or negative effect on her. Chioma only had one friend that I know and that was our neighbor Fadeke. Fadeke was married but her husband was usually out on night duties at his work place. Fadeke was a pretty and homely lady, always inviting us to her place for dinner but we were both always too busy to attend, most times she ends up dropping off the food. Once in a while, Chioma would visit her during the morning time after dropping Jessica at school as Fadeke was an entrepreneur too. Chioma sometimes got to meet Fadeke’s husband.
The problems started one night when we heard Fadeke screaming. We were scared that she was being attacked by robbers? We stayed silently in our living room, praying for her until suddenly we heard a knock on our door, Chioma was scared and asked me to stay away from the door, but I proceeded and looked through the peep-hole, I saw Fadeke alone, with a hand on her stomach in pain, I quickly opened the door as she looked like she would fall anytime soon, she could hardly walk. Then, Chioma seeing that there was no trouble walked towards the door to help Fadeke. That night we administer some first aid to Fadeke and she slept in our house, she slept in the guest room and Chioma stayed all night to watch over her.
In the morning, I knocked to see how they were doing and Fadeke was all smiles thanking me for allowing her into the house even with the fear of robbers. And thus began Fadeke’s many nights in our home.
To be continued…..
